The RHIHA will be run 2 'Grass Roots Sports' events in co-operation with HMS RALEIGH, HMS COLLINGWOOD, Plymouth Pavilions and Planet Ice Gosport on 9 and 10 February 2010.  These events are designed to introduce new Royal Navy recruits to the sports on offer in the senior service, supporting the Director of Naval Physical Development 'Fit to Fight' doctrine.  About 25 Phase II trainees from HMS COLLINGWOOD and HMS RALEIGH will take to the ice with Royal Navy players and coaches at Planet Ice Gosport and Plymouth Pavilions respectively for an introduction to ice hockey.  The RNIHA hopes to hold follow-on events at both venues and to expand the establishments to include ships and Royal Marine units during the summer and fall terms.  It is also hoped that individuals will want to continue participating in this fast growing sport - both Plymouth Pavilions and Planet Ice Gosport support various public skating and adult ice hockey sessions where enthusiasts can take to the ice.  Further timetable details are at www.plymouthpavilions.com and www.planet-ice.co.uk.
